Picture Sharing Time

I normally don't post pictures of my family and me but here is one from last year:

Here We Are

I will add the Burger King is not family. What - you think we are dressed up for Halloween? That's insulting!

Dancing in the Cold

Saturday was my son's Homecoming Dance. For the most part, I do not post pictures of my family on this blog. If you are my flickr or facebook friend then you've seen the pictures. Here is his girlfriend's corsage:

Homecoming Dance corsage

Unfortunately the dance ran into a problem. For some reason it was booked outside in the plaza of the baseball stadium. There was a faculty adviser who signed the contract. I haven't heard all the details. The poor kids were freezing and miserable. The facility did not provide heaters. The school brought in a few. At least they have 2 more dances this year.

When Reality Is Not Real

My husband was the first one I heard say the whole balloon boy saga was a hoax. Now we hear the boy's dad was pimping his family out hoping to get a show. For the most part, I don't watch a lot of television. However my daughter will watch those "reality" shows if I don't police the remote. I've told her Jon & Kate, The Real Housewives of ..., L.A. Ink, Cake Boss etc. are loosely if not totally scripted. (then there is the whole category of celebrity reality shows!) Drama and exaggerated story lines are created to boost ratings. The cast become actors playing it up for the camera. It's not real in the sense of what everyday people consider real. I'm not passing judgment on these types of shows. I just don't want my daughter to think it's normal behavior to pull hair, flip tables and cuss people out. It is entertainment. Made up drama.

My first recollection of reality t.v. was Real World New York on Mtv in 1992. The whole premise of the show had me hooked. I won't say it was completely authentic. Perhaps as authentic as you could get knowing you were being filmed. Looking over the last 17 years, reality t.v. started as one thing and has evolved into something completely different. I guess it's what the viewers want.

Knowing the Solutions

The root canal went fine despite the horror stories I had been told. People love to share their bad experiences or recount what a relative or friend went through. Anyway, I was in and out in an hour with minimal pain later after the meds wore off.
My hip is a little better. There are some things I can do to help it - yoga and other exercises. I have been extremely lazy this week. I do so well with eating healthy and working out then something comes up that totally throws me off my routine.
As the case with most everything in my life - I know what I should be doing. Making myself do it is another story.

Falling Apart To the Left

Root canal today.

Hip issues all weekend.

I've had hip problems before but not like this. From online reading, it appears as bursitis. Doesn't that sound as such as old person's condition? It seemed to start getting better last night. Once again running is put on hold. I had not been actively running the last week so when my hip flared up I don't think running is the problem. Still running is probably not good idea right now.

I consider myself a healthy person. By appearance, I feel I look healthy. I exercise. I eat well. However I get old people conditions. I lost hearing in one ear after a surgery. That can happen to anyone but a hearing loss makes you feel old. I had gall bladder surgery in my mid 30's. The doctor kept saying I was not the typical patient for such - I was young, healthy diet and not overweight. Another weird thing is all this affects my left side: left ear, tooth on my left and left hip.

Maybe I can be an old witch for Halloween.

Pretty Pumpkin?

I asked my daughter to pick out a pumpkin and this is what she came back with:

and I told her to pick out a pumpkin

She likes pumpkins that are different.

Anyone dressing up for Halloween? My husband and I are going to a party that night. I haven't gotten my costume together. Yesterday my daughter tried on my prom dress and now has decided to go with "80's Prom Queen". I silently thanked my mom for saving my dress. Since I have an obsession with anti-clutter, I tend to throw and give away a lot of things. Now I wish I had saved the five bridesmaid dresses I had. I wasn't thinking that one day I'd have a daughter.

Two Totally Unrelated Pictures

Friday Night Football

Another Friday night football game. It was away. My son's team won in the last seconds 24-23. The other team got a touchdown putting them 1 point behind. They went for a 2 point conversion to get the lead with 15 seconds left. My son rushed the opponent's quarterback which kept the other team from scoring and winning. Also he had some great tackles and 2 fumble recoveries. It was the first game I felt he's been back to his old self since the mono.

Here's What I Think of You Taking My Picture

Chloe has been very clingy to me lately. She is 2 1/2 and is just now getting on our laps. In this picture we were resting earlier. I managed to get up without disturbing her too much. I took a series of pictures while she was washing her face. I thought this one was funny.
