I do try to be green. I feel I only take baby steps but that is moving forward. This week I read Sleeping Naked is Green by Vanessa Farquharson. It chronicled her 366-day journey to live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle making one positive change each day. A serious subject but the book is pretty funny.I thought of what green things I've done recently:
- Went to the organic dry cleaners. It advertises it doesn't use toxic chemicals. I didn't quiz the nice lady who appears to be the owner so I don't know any specifics. I haven't been to the dry cleaners in months. We just don't wear those types of clothes anymore with the exception of recently when the guys wore suits to Mom's memorial services. Last summer I went to a dry cleaners that claimed to be green. It is now out of business. I'm sure the whole industry has taken a big hit with more people dressing casual and trying to save money. Again I don't go to the cleaners often so I will pay a little more to be environmentally friendly.
- I try to drive less. My kids don't like the fact I won't run out on a whim if it can be combined later with other errands. Also once I'm home at the end of the day, I am home. Let me take off my halo to say we will drive 200 miles round trip in a day to see App play football. We are far from perfect.
- My compost bin and I have been together now for over a year. I know it's weird that I like watching food decompose. I've been surprised it is not as gross as I thought it would be. Throw in raw vegetable and fruit scraps, eggshells, coffee grounds, a little dead grass or leaves for good measure, keep damp but not too damp, shovel it around every few days and eventually you will have a wonderful fertilizer.
- My facial cleanser ran out so I bought a BWC (Beauty Without Cruelty) cleanser - no parabens, no animal testing etc. It works well.

Sounds like excellent stuff. It's good that you're making an effort.
Awesome, Joan! Great steps!
(btw, somehow I got unsubbed from your blog and thought you just hadn't been posting lately. I see I've missed a lot! My apologies. I've resubbed.)
