Past and Present Continued

The remaining members of The Grateful Dead are kicking off a tour in my town. This is kinda ironic. They played a 2 night show here in 1991. Many locals vowed never again after all the Deadheads converged upon the area. Camping was allowed. I remember driving my mom around the "village" to see the sights. She was shocked by the culture. It took the coliseum neighborhood some time to recover.
My husband asked me if I was interested in going to the upcoming concert. I said "no". That chapter is closed. Sorry friends, I will not tell of my adventures. I can say it wouldn't be the same. I am not the same person. When I went to the shows I was a young, married professional - no kids. While I still like the music, I listen to the Chili Peppers and Death Cab for Cutie a lot more than Jerry and friends. We all change.

Here is one of my t-shirts. This did come from the above mentioned 2 night concert in 1991. Once I was offered a lot of money for it. I turned the guy down since I didn't want to walk around in just a bra. The back reads "Is It Alive or Is It Dead?"
My shirt: Is it Alive or is it Dead?

This is a sticker I found in a drawer just a few days ago:
Reminder of the Past

Do I consider myself a Deadhead? No.
Do I listen to the 24/7 Grateful Dead channel on Sirius XM sometimes? You bet.

I like the t-shirt. :)

My mom dated Robert Hunter back before they formed the dead. She stopped because of all the drugs.

The last time I saw them was in Raleigh. While we were parked a guy drove up, got out of his car and changed out of his suit and tie into shorts and birkenstocks.

That is a cool shirt:)

When will they be in your town? I wanna go!!! (Alas, I will probably have to work.)

Sorry I haven't visited lately ... tax season has kicked in and taken over my life.

I checked out that village during the 2 night Dead camp out. I was curious because I was more of a "metal head" at the time. I remember the smells and the friendly vibe. To be honest, it made me a little uneasy. As a rule, I don't trust overtly friendly folks. I was on edge for most of the visit.

My girlfriend at the time loved it. She gladly shed her "metal head" side and embraced the hippie that lives slightly below the skin.

I have a handful of CD's just so that I have a few of their CD's. I appreciate the musicianship, but still can't manage to fully embrace the Dead. I generally like songs under six minutes. Anything more kills me.

My "new" bus has Deadhead stickers all over the windows. I haven't removed them yet because it's not on the top of my list. I don't really like them much. :) The band or the stickers. ((grin))
