Beauty (that's me) and the Geek

You may have noticed my Twitter in the sidebar. Twitter allows you to enter short posts about what you are doing/thinking and you can "follow" other people on Twitter. I enjoy the latter! One person I follow is my geek crush (actually he's pretty cool) - Kevin Rose.

I stole and copy part of his bio: the founder of Digg. He is also a co-founder of the Internet Television Network Revision3 as well co-hosts the extremely popular Revision3 show, Diggnation, Diggnation consistently ranks as one of the top podcast downloads from the Apple iTunes Music Store. Prior to founding Digg and Revision3, Kevin was a co-host on TechTV.

I'm probably geeky myself for knowing all this but even the famous blogger Dooce crushes on Kevin. FYI yes - I am still happily married. No - I'm not running to the west coast to stalk a man 10 years my junior!

I Had to Get a New Cell Phone

I Had to Get a New Cell Phone
Originally uploaded by ASUJoan

I have to say I was in shock. I entered the cell phone store and there were no other customers. When I went in December, I had to wait an hour! I didn't go all CrackBerry like my friends. As my husband said I'm not a "power user". He uses 3000+ minutes a month due to work. My son's incoming/outgoing texts are about 3000. I probably spend too much time on the computer. We all have our weaknesses. What are yours? - If it's fit for print!

Don't Drink and Drive!

Don't Drink and Drive!
Originally uploaded by ASUJoan

Someone I knew (not that well) was killed by a drunk driver over the weekend along with her husband and mother. The driver lost control of his truck, crossed the median of the interstate, and hit them head on. It was only 11:30 a.m. She isn't the first person I've known killed from a drunk driver and probably won't be the last.

Vacationing (in my mind)

I think I'm going on a little vacation ... vacation from blogging that is. I've had blog blankness before but what I'm feeling now is a lack of inspiration and motivation. (I was warned this would happen after 387 posts). Therefore I've decided to take a short break maybe through the end of March or early April. Who knows - perhaps I'll get the blogging crazies and post tomorrow.
I am going to continue uploading pictures to my flickr site and sending a few over here. I will probably still read and comment on your wonderful blogs.
Happy Spring!

A Little Randomness

  • Yesterday was a good day. I managed to get in 13,000+ steps and did not offend any fat people. I'll confess I listened to "Baby Got Back" while walking but no spite was involved.
  • I'm finding after taking a long walk on these warm days, I really want an ice cold beer. I fought the craving yesterday. This might turn into a problem. I'm trying to limit beer to the weekends. We will see.
  • Pictures of "Kristen" the paid escort for the NY governor surfaced last night. Have you seen them? I thought she looks kinda like a ... I won't say. It rhymes with bank. A member of my household thought she was hot. He does have a weakness for brunettes.
  • This morning I got up at 5:30, ran around the house in circles it seemed like, and didn't roll into work until 9:15. Excuse me but wtf? I've got to do better.
I apologize for such randomness and less than my usual G rated material. Have a great day!

Discriminated Against - Sort of

Wow! I'll have to get a 2nd job due to all the love you are showing Chloe and animals. Thanks! I will continuing taking count through Saturday for those that haven't sent birthday wishes.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I had put on a few pounds and wanted to get rid of them. I encountered a situation this week:
After I left the office, I stopped by the bank. A teller I go to frequently and I were making small talk. She asked what I was going to do and I said I wanted to get a walk in during this beautiful, warm weather (sorry my northern friends). I added I was trying to get back into an exercise routine and lose a few pounds. Well she kinda got offended and made a crack about me losing weight. Let me say she was larger than me. I guess I could see how she would turn it back around to her situation but I didn't mean it that way. I wasn't even thinking about her when I answered. I guess I should be more aware. The truth is I am not large - at least I don't think so. I want to lose a few pounds because each year I gain a little. I want to stop the trend. I have those clothes in my closet which just quite don't fit anymore. Also, exercise isn't necessarily about losing weight. It's about being healthy. The ironic thing is outside of this blog I'm a pretty private person. It really isn't like me to divulge that much information.

I will brag to you (not anyone in person) that Monday was the first day I got in 10,000 steps.

Chloe's 1st birthday is March 15. Our family is donating to the local humane society in her honor. I will add $2 to that gift for every person who wishes her a happy birthday either on flickr or on my blog.

OMG! The scale doesn't lie!

OMG! The scale doesn't lie!
Originally uploaded by ASUJoan
I haven't stepped onto a scale since I got back from Mexico in October. I weighed myself yesterday and I've gained 5 pounds! Of course no coincidence November was when I stopped running and doing any exercise for the most part. I'm making a declaration on flickr , my blog and to anyone who will listen that I'm losing at least 5 pounds! I'll keep you updated.

UPDATE 3/10: Actually I am down 1.5 pounds. I don't attribute this loss to really anything I did. I believe the fluctuation is a result of all that food on the retreat. I'm still looking at losing 6.5 pounds.

Back in the Old Days

Earlier in the week my office went on a staff retreat. We stayed at a Catholic based prayer center. It is open to all denominations and has 20 guest rooms. The facility is beautiful. There is a lot of wood and glass. It is situated on 140 wooded acres. The best part was the food. A priest named Father Louie cooked the most delicious meals.
Here is a glimpse of what was out my back window and the gathering area:

This is the chapel:

One night I called home after I found an area where I could get cell phone service. My daughter answered and asked how our retreat was going and how my room was. I told her my room was like a hotel but there was no t.v. or internet connection. She exclaimed I was living as they did in the 1800's.

Standing the Test of Time

Monday night a dumb*ss Appalachian student (there aren't many) decided the best way to get out of the damages done to his apartment was to invent a story:
An armed man wearing a dark ski mask and black Pink Floyd t-shirt stormed into his apartment.
While being questioned by the police, the tale snowballed into the gun toting guy fleeing onto campus thus causing a lock down all over the university.

My first thought was: I'm glad not one was hurt. My second thought: Floyd is freakin' timeless.
I'm not a huge fan but I just wrote about them in my last post as well as my post It All Comes Back to Floyd.
