Do you out there have facebook or MySpace for that matter? I have facebook. Recently I mentioned to someone in the company of others that she and I were facebook friends. She went on to say she wishes she didn't "friend" everyone who requested. She now wants facebook to be for her family and close friends. At first I took offense to this comment. She and I are not close but see each other often. When I was on facebook her name came up up as being a friend of someone I was already friends with. You know how that goes so I requested to be her friend. She said "yes". No pressure from me. In fact I've never contacted her on facebook or brought up the subject before. I guess the bottomline is she is re-thinking how she uses facebook. Her being "out there" too much is her choosing not mine.I guess I look at facebook differently. If I'm "out there" so be it. By filling out the profile, you are cross referencing to others who went to the same high school, college, same employer etc. I have to accept you as a friend in order for you to see my profile. I don't have my twitter or this blog linked to facebook since I'm a relatively secret blogger around a lot of my friends. I can't say I even access facebook everyday. It goes in phases. I don't do a lot of communicating through facebook. Usually I will use text, twitter or email first.
What is your opinion of all this? Do you have a purpose for using facebook or MySpace?
Oh by the way, I "unfriended" the above mentioned person the same day.

I don't blame ya.
I use facebook to keep up with friends...HS, Army, etc. Family is on there too, but they don't use it as much. Plus I love Flair! ;o)
yea, i would have unfriended her too. I use facebook to keep up with people i know. i've had my myspace so long that i have a lot of people on there who i used to know but don't anymore. i don't accept friends that i don't know, though.
I have both FaceBook and MySpace and I just don't "get it". I suppose I should work with it more, but I don't have time.
I would have "unfriended " her too. =)
I have blocked a couple people from even being able to find me on FB (my mother being one) but otherwise, I like the socializing aspect of FB and finding long lost friends (some almost 30 years lost).
But if someone I knew IRL was all geeked about their FB status, I'd probably unfriend them too so there wouldn't be any issues.
I didn't get it at first, but I signed up with MySpace to read my buddy's blog... Then after watching Tripper using MySpace for what it was originally intended for... Shameless self-promotion... I got finally on board. I used to to promote my live remotes and when I was on the air.
I recently signed up with Facebook, but I'm having trouble understanding it all. It's not as user friendly as MySpace... Or I'm an idiot... Which isn't far from the mark.
Some of my friends use both sites for dating and random sexual encounters... And they're mostly women!
Shock me!
I'm a control freak with my friends on FB and decline ignore requests. I'm trying to keep it to family and fairly close friends or at the very least good acquaintances -- not just some random person I said hi to one time in 10th grade. There is a girl I went to high school with that didn't like me or I her and she has sent me 4 friend requests and I've ignored all them -- she hasn't gotten the hint because she sent me another one today. I feel like she just wants to see "what I have" not "how I'm doing."
I would have unfriended her too. That is not cool.
I use my facebook to keep up with old and new friends or bloggers. To me it is fun, harmless and I don't put anything that personal on there. I don't accept a friend request if I don't know who the person is, I just ignore it. To me it is about having fun, I don't take it very seriously. I certainly don't post anything close to what I do on my blog!!
XXXX
I just recently got Facebook and I use it to communicate with my family, friends, church folks, my couponing buddies... I agree with you, though, if you put yourself out there, you're out there. And like you said, she didn't have to accept your friend request to begin with.
I'm a myspace girl....haven't graduated to facebook....I think it's mostly because before it was opened to everyone, I tried to sign up....and it told me that I was too old to join....ever since then, I've said to HELL with facebook...haha
In myspace, it's nothing but people I know or have met somewhere down the line....my blog buds don't know anything about it as far as I know. I moved around A LOT as a kid/teenager so I went to a number of schools. Myspace allowed me to get back in contact with people I never thought I would hear from again. I think it's cool that I can chat or send a comment to someone if I get the urge. Plus, my old friends can keep tabs on me....I like to keep tabs on them, too!
