Music To My Ears

In September when the Mountaineer Mobile's transmission went out after 8 years together, I bought a 1 year old car. I won't give all the details since we all know the Internet is full of creepy stalker people but not you of course. It was equipped with XM radio though I did not activate.
Recently it hit me how our local radio stations well excuse me ... suck. The music industry dictates what music is played. There is no originality. I listen a little to Murphy in the Morning while at the bus stop. He's a big Appalachian supporter. The kids especially enjoy his show. My husband forbids me (yeah right) from listening to another morning show because one of the host use to lie and said he went to Carolina. In fact he went to ASU.
We don't live in a large enough market to have a lot of variety. Charlotte has some good shows but I can't picked them up here. Anyway I debated back and forth about XM radio. I hated the idea of yet another service to pay for each month. I didn't like the idea of paying for radio. Well you've probably figured by now I gave in. So far so good. I'm in a little retro mood. The description of my most listened to stations to date:
  • 90's Hits
  • Modern Adult Hits
  • Hits of the 2000's
  • New Wave 80's
  • Later Classic Rock
  • Hip Hop
  • Classic Cuts
It can be a little bland. I was surprised most of the channels had d.j.'s. It's still new to me therefore most of my time is spent flipping around like I do on my t.v., computer, and MP3 player. I totally believe we are developing a form of ADD due to all the choices we have out there. Still I have a little guilt. I'm big on supporting local businesses. (Saturday I went to the Farmer's Market and got as many local Christmas gifts as possible) and clearly satellite radio is not local. Curious if my DJ friend will comment.

Yes, I'm leaving a comment... Consider me the Satellite version of Iron Eyes Cody and you just threw trash at my feet.

Seriously, I don't listen to the radio either. I would listen to the one show you mentioned with the lying DJ, simply because I worked there and needed to stay station topical.

I mostly listen to my Zune (Cultradio for you in the Zune social) and good ol' compact discs in the truck. The same 365 songs over and over on the dial just don't do it for me personally.

Instead of Satellite version... I should have said "Over-the-air" version of Iron Eyes Cody.

Hey... I'm sober and prone to mistakes.

I've had satellite radio for a few years now. While many people may find it inappropriate, I originally subscribed to satellite because of Howard Stern. I quickly became a big fan of satellite overall, fewer commercials, more music variety, more talk variety for that matter. When I'm stuck in the car without satellite I usually end up turning off the radio because I get so frustrated with he same old content and multiple commercials.
