A Picture from the Past

Tonight I was deep into flickr when I found a picture of my grandparents' house. It was in the country where I spent many summers. There were also pictures of the church, the cemetery, the family's grave sites including my grandparents' head stones. The county's historical society had uploaded the photographs. Seeing them brought back a flood of memories. My grandfather passed away in 1979. He was in poor health most of my childhood. He was born in 1896. Doesn't that seem wild? My grandmother and I were very close. She lived until November 1993 - long enough to see her first great grandchild - my son. He was 9 months old when she died. She had been a caregiver to my grandfather for a long time. He was 10 years older than her. After he was gone, she traveled all over the United States with senior citizen bus tours. She flew for the first time to Hawaii in her 70's. I think about her often. This was their house:

That is awesome but a little eery that you ran across the photos. But at least now you have them.

The Internet is amazing, eh?

What a beautiful house and I bet your Grandmother was a lovely lady. It is kind of freaky when houses you remember from childhood end up on flickr.

So you just ran across these without knowing they were there? How strange! Or maybe coincidental. It looks like the archetypal grandparents' home, though. I bet you had some lovely family times there.

What a beautiful country house. Wow, what memories you have there, with your beloved Grandmother. I was very, very close to both my Grandmothers. I would love to hear more about your memories about you and your Grandmother. There is nothing more special than a Grandmother's love. This is the type of house I always picture a Grandmother living in, like out of a storybook. I love this.

Wow, how weird that you saw them on flickr! Cool too, though.

If you want to check out some really beautiful photos on flickr sometime, do a search for the member "Library of Congress". There are some amazing historical photos there.
